Fantasy Cast Friday - By my Side by Wendy Lou Jones

Fantasy Cast Friday is back! And this week I've got an absolutely brilliant one for you as my fellow Harper Impulse author Wendy Lou Jones shares with you her dream cast for her latest book 'By My Side'. But before we get started, I think it's time we found out a little bit more about Wendy, and her brand new book...

Author Bio

My name is Wendy Lou Jones. I was born and raised in West Sussex, England and moved to Birmingham to study Medicine at University, where I was lucky enough to meet my husband. We now live in a little village in Herefordshire with our two grubby boys. I discovered a love of writing not long after my youngest son started school. And if you were to ask me what it was that made me make the switch, I’d tell you quite simply, that it started with a dream.

'By My Side' – blurb

Betrayed by her boyfriend and best friend, Lena is left empty; trapped under a weight of guilt and loneliness. Then, at her lowest point and when she needs it most, a mysterious stranger comes into her life with a tale of friendship, family, and finding love in the most unexpected of places…

Katy Heath is definitely not thinking of love when she comes across consultant, Adam Elliott, berating some poor patient on the ward one day. In fact it is Dr Peter Florin who quickly has everyone’s hearts aflutter with his easy smiles and practised charm.

Yet Katy comes to realise that there’s more to Adam than his determination to push everyone away and it’s not long before she finds herself longing to reach out to touch the man within, healing the pain of his past.

As Lena is drawn into Katy’s story, she begins to learn – just as Katy does - that the course of true love never did run smooth.

Oh, hang on... I can hear the sound of flashbulbs going off, the roar of a crowd... I think I'd better hand you back over to Wendy... Wendy, are you there...?

Welcome to the opening night of the much anticipated, smash hit movie, By My Side. And I believe it’s going to be a star-studded audience here tonight, but maybe a few lesser known faces on the screen.

By My Side was first released as an eBook in 2014, by the author Wendy Lou Jones and I believe she’s here tonight… oh yes, there she is, wearing a stunning long, deep blue, halter neck dress with butterfly detail -  a nod to hercover art there, I think.

And our first cast member is just getting out of the limousine and it’s… Yes, it’s Richard Armitage (famously known for his portrayal of John Thornton in the BBC’s adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s, North and South).

Here he plays the tortured orthopaedic surgeon, Adam Elliott, the spikey withdrawn, yet passionate man who Kate tries to tempt to fall in love again. And he’s greeting the author there. Oh, and is that a furtive kiss I spy? We’ll get back to that later, because…

Just pulled up behind is one of our leading ladies. Katy Heath, the hard working and feisty A&E nurse played by none other than Jessica Chastain, who’s currently filming the horror movie, Crimson Peak, so we’re quite lucky she could be here with us tonight.

And now Jessica has been joined on the red carpet by Matt Lanter, of 90210 fame, looking, well, I can only describe it as ‘very casual’ for a red carpet event. Matt plays Jack, the young undertaker, who wins over our other leading lady with his quiet charm, but where has she got to?

Oh, here she is, the woman herself, just stepping out in an understated little black number. The lonely, girl, rejected by her best friend and boyfriend and lost in her own world of hopelessness and despair. She’s a relative newcomer to the silver screen, the delightful Stacy Martin. It’s Lena, everyone.

And as we watch them walking into the fabulous building in front of me, with paparazzi flashing and crowds cheering all around, I’m sure it’s going to be a spectacular evening and I’ll be sure to catch up with a few of them at the premier party later.

Back to Michelle, on the blog.

Thank you, Wendy! And watch yourself with that free champagne, ok? Don't want you doing anything with Mr. Armitage that might make it into tomorrow's tabloids... anyway, I think a few of you out there might just want to find out a lot more about the fabulous Wendy Lou Jones, so here are her contact links:-

And if you'd like to grab yourself a copy of 'By My Side' you can do just that by checking out the following buy link...

Thank you, Wendy, for an absolutely fabulous fantasy cast! I'm now off to bag myself some of that free champagne... and see if the rather lovely Matt Lanter needs a top-up...

The Striker Series - Meet the Characters: Ryan Fisher

With Striker - book #1 in my sexy soccer trilogy - already out there, and Extra Time, book #2 in the series, due for release on July 10th, I thought it about time I introduced another of the main characters from the Striker Series. And even though I've already (briefly) introduced this next character once here on this blog not that long ago, I think he deserves a bit more of an introduction.

Have you met Ryan Fisher...?
Ryan Fisher is a professional footballer at the top of his game - young, hot, talented, and seriously loaded! As one of England's top strikers it's no wonder his ego is inflated, which means his arrogance matches his talent, and when we first meet him in Striker he's cocky, way too self-assured, and absolutely positive that anything he wants, he can have. Because of who he is.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne - Ryan Fisher's home town.

A born and bred Geordie boy, Ryan Fisher left the north east of England at just 14 years old. Spotted by a soccer scout playing for his local under-16's side, he's spent almost fourteen years playing his football in London. But as Striker begins he's returning to his home town of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in a multi-million-pound transfer deal from a top north London club. He's back home. But is his return to his roots as simple as it sounds? Or is there something more to it than just an ordinary transfer deal?

St. James' Park, home of north east Premiership club Newcastle United. Ryan Fisher plays for fictional north east side Newcastle Red Star in 'Striker'...

Ryan Fisher is hot property, and he knows it. He's a tattooed bad boy; a young man with a dream career. He has women falling at his feet, more money than he knows what to do with; sponsorship deals and ad campaigns that make sure he's one of the most famous faces in the world of football. But Ryan has a past. Is he really the typical top-flight footballer he first appears to be? Is that cocky side and that arrogance a true reflection of who he is? Or is there something more behind that famous footballer facade? And what happens when everything Ryan thought he wanted suddenly becomes something he's not sure he needs anymore... When his life is turned upside down by the one thing he wasn't expecting to happen, it's the way he deals with it all that will affect whether or not he wins a game he really wasn't expecting to play...

Striker is a story of sex, secrets and the true cost of fame. Footballers' Wives meets Jackie Collins in this sizzling scorcher of a summer read!

*UPDATE* All 3 books in the Striker trilogy are available to download right now from most online retailers.

They're also available in paperback, and can be ordered HERE from Amazon.

The Striker Series is published through HarperImpulse.

The 'Striker Series' playlist is now up on Spotify!

More than anything, I need music to help me write. Music inspires me, excites me; music provides that all important soundtrack I need when I'm working on a book. And when it came to my Striker Series of novels, music became even more important.

There were songs that helped me move the story forward; songs that became very special as they became associated with certain characters and storylines. There are songs I listened to when writing these books - especially during the writing of the last book in the trilogy - that actually made me cry, they became that much a part of the characters and their story.

So I decided to put all those songs into a playlist as a permanent reminder of the music that helped me shape three books I'm extremely proud of.

And you can now check out the 'Striker Series' playlist over on Spotify, and listen to the songs behind these sexy soccer bonkbusters...

I made the local press!

Just a quickie, mainly to make sure I have a record of this as it may be the only one to appear! After sending out dozens upon dozens of press releases over the past few weeks to try and get the word out about my sexy soccer series of books, finally, this morning, I noticed that me and the Striker Series had managed to bag a small mention in one of my local papers - The Northern Echo. Now, it may just be the online version in which I'm featured, and we're not exactly talking the New York Times here, but nevertheless I'm there, and for me it's quite an achievement, believe me. And it's also made me realise that sometimes, if you just have a little bit of faith, and patience, something will happen. Eventually.

Who knows whether it'll have any effect on sales - I doubt it. But, I made the local press. I'm now officially a local author! And you have no idea how much it means to me to be able to say that... sometimes I just need to see something down in print to actually believe it's real...

Anyway, you can check out the article from The Northern Echo right HERE

Now, let's just see if any more of those press releases I sent out get noticed... ;-)

Striker is available to download right HERE

And if you would like to pre-order the paperback copy of the book, you can do so HERE! It's out on August 14th.

Fantasy Cast Friday re-worked - 'Striker'

As someone who spends most of her life living in a fantasy world, it's no surprise that what I love doing best when I write my books is picturing my characters in my head as though they were real people - and what I love doing even more is going into full-on fantasy mode by then taking that one step further and imagining who would play those characters should that particular book be made into a movie/TV series. I do that a lot. It actually helps with the writing, in a strange kind of way. And when I first self-published my sexy soccer romance Striker, I did do a fantasy cast post here on my blog a while back. But, seeing as the book has now been re-published through HarperImpulse, had a little re-edit and a brand new, stunning cover, I thought I'd do a little bit of updating on my fantasy cast list, too.

But first, just in case you have no idea what Striker is about, check out the book blurb...

It’s time to play - dirty…

Amber Sullivan is an ambitious, beautiful and feisty Sports reporter for a local TV news programme. With an ex-professional soccer player for a father, she’s grown up in and around the world of premiership football, and boy does she know better than to get mixed up with the men who play the game. As rich and charming as they are, Amber has a strict no player rule.

One of the biggest names in football, Ryan Fisher is young, hot, and talented. He has it all – looks, fame, money; not to mention women falling at his over-insured feet and a lifestyle he’s in no hurry to give up.

At the centre of a multi-million-pound transfer deal back to his home club, Ryan’s a big scoop for a local sports journalist and Amber can’t afford to miss this career-making opportunity – even if that means having to interview the cocky sports star.
But once the tape starts rolling it’s clear Ryan’s got more than just an exclusive on his mind… and he’s used to getting exactly what he wants.

Delving into the lives of those who live and work within the so-called Beautiful Game, ‘Striker’ is a story of sex, secrets and the true cost of fame.

Footballers' Wives meets Jackie Collins in this sizzling scorcher of a read!

*

So, here we go. Fantasy cast list - Striker - re-worked...

And I think, first of all, we should tackle (see what I did there?) the main character, Striker himself - bad boy footballer Ryan Fisher. Who would I love to play him? I actually think it'd be quite hard to cast him perfectly, to be honest. Although there are probably a multitude of American actors who would be able to play him perfectly. But Ryan really needs to be British. In the book he's from northern England, a Geordie. So unless you can find me an actor outside of Britain who can do a pretty decent Geordie accent, I'm going with Threesome and The Paradise actor Emun Elliot

Emun Elliot

More Emun Elliot
Now, even though he has the most gorgeous Scottish accent (I could listen to him speak all day...), I'm absolutely positive Mr. Elliot could do a cracking job of my native north east dialect.

He kind of fits how I imagine Ryan Fisher to look, really. Handsome, hot, and... well, that just about covers it, really... 'Nuff said, I think...

Right. Who's next? Let's move onto the character of Amber Sullivan - a beautiful, feisty, female sports reporter. At first I imagined her being played by one of my favourite actresses, Sarah Parish. But because she's actually slightly older than Amber is, I had a few second thoughts about that one. But another brilliant British actress sprung to mind that could play Amber perfectly - Suranne Jones

Suranne Jones
She's played some strong, feisty characters in her time, and I think she'd be great as Amber. We might have to dye her hair dark red, though...

Okay. Next character for the casting couch would be manager of the fictional football team in the book, Newcastle Red Star - Jim Allen.

Jim Allen is handsome, charismatic, and American. An ex-player turned manager he's back on Tyneside to head-up the club he used to play for, bringing with him secrets from the past, and a whole lot of trouble...

Who would be the perfect man for this character? Well, my muse for that character started out as Person of Interest star Jim Caviezel.

More Jim Caviezel... Look! He even looks like a football manager in this photo!

His character of John Reese in that show is very similar to how I imagine Jim Allen to be - quite guarded, a little enigmatic, but with a low, sexy voice that makes him darkly attractive.  And as the character of Jim, along with Ryan, gets quite a few of the more steamy scenes in the book, he has to be hot! Or those scenes just wouldn't work.

Timothy Olyphant
However, as I was writing the second and third installments of the trilogy, another muse came to the forefront. Another actor who, quite frankly, I would sell my mother for if it meant he would take this part. The gorgeous Timothy Olyphant! And, yes, I know I have a ridiculous crush on this guy after watching him in 'Justified', but, in all honestly, he would also be perfect for the role of Jim Allen. He's the right age, he's hot, handsome, and sexy as hell. And he can rock a suit just as well as Mr. Caviezel can. Actually, you know, if either of those two were to turn up on my "casting couch" I'd be one very happy woman, believe me...

Okay. The final main character in the book is that of Ronnie White - an ex-footballer-turned-TV pundit, and Amber's best friend. And for this character I'd be pinning my hopes on a bloke who isn't actually an actor, but who would be perfect for the part so I'm sure we could train him up. I'd have a go, anyway. Jamie Redknapp! Who is, coincidentally, an ex-footballer-turned-TV pundit himself... Perfect, eh? ;)

Jamie Redknapp
Couldn't have cast that one better...

Anyway, that's the main characters sorted, but what about the others who play a part in Striker?

There's Amber's boss, Kevin Russell. He's the producer at the Newcastle-based news station she works for, and I'm going local for this one and saying that the lovely Robson Green would be great as Kevin! He'd bring the dry humour that Kevin has into the role, and I think he'd be just perfect to play that character. I'm quite pleased with that choice... And he's a northern boy! I mean, I've got to have at least one north east actor in this, haven't I? Seeing as it's set mainly in Newcastle.

Robson Green
Next we have Amber's father, ex-footballer-turned manager of a lower league local club, Freddie Sullivan.
I had to think about this one for a while, but all of a sudden the name Sam Neill popped into my head. He's always been a favourite actor of mine, and I actually think he'd be great as Freddie.

Sam Neill
So, there we have it - my ideal cast list for that yet-to-be-devised TV series Striker - the north east of England's answer to Footballers Wives! I can knock out a script in a couple of days if anyone's interested... 'Fifty Shades of Football' has quite a ring to it, don't you think... ;)

Anyway, this is all a bit of fun - but I know I'm not the only author out there that does this, so, if you want to share your own personal Fantasy Cast, just let me know.

In the meantime, if you've read Striker, let me know what you think of my choices for these main characters in the book, and if you disagree with any of them, who do you think would have fitted the character better?

The Striker Series - Meet the Characters: Jim Allen

To mark the release of Striker - book #1 in my sexy soccer series - I'm going to do a number of posts introducing the central characters in the story. And today, it's time to meet American-born ex-footballer turned manager Jim Allen.

Now in his late forties, Jim Allen is a bit of a dark, almost mysterious character. Some have even described him as having a slightly disturbing edge to him, and they wouldn't be entirely wrong there. Jim is a complicated man. A deep man. A man with a past. A man with secrets. A man who doesn't give too much away, especially when it comes to relationships.

But he's also incredibly sexy, hot, and that dark side to him just makes him all the more attractive. All the more dangerous. And nobody knows that more than local sports reporter Amber Sullivan...

Jim Caviezel
Now, when I was writing the character of Jim I had two people in mind as the perfect muse. Both of them actors in their forties. Both of them hot, handsome, and capable of playing dark and mysterious characters - first there was Person of Interest star Jim Caviezel. He was my muse for Jim Allen for the first book, and most of the second.

But then there was Timothy Olyphant. Also just as perfect for the character of Jim, because he has to be sexy, right? I mean, these books have some pretty hot scenes in them, a lot of them involving this charismatic fictional football manager.

Timothy Olyphant
So this is how I picture him - tall, with dark, slightly greying hair but still so hot people stop and stare when he walks into a room.

Jim Allen is the epitome of control. A respected man within the world of football, he has a reputation for always getting what he wants. And when he moves from a top London club back up north to take the manager's job at Newcastle Red Star, the club he used to play for, he's got his eye on more than just the league title. The job isn't the only thing he's moved back to Newcastle for.
But this time Jim Allen is faced with more obstacles than he'd bargained for. The one thing he wants - the one thing he's come back up north to find - isn't guaranteed to become his quite as easy as he thought it might. He has to work hard; he has to fight. But Jim Allen plays a good game. It's just that, this time, is it a game he can win...?

Nine reasons to watch the World Cup... The Beautiful Game just got hot!

With the biggest tournament in football almost ready to kick-off, I thought I'd do a little post to celebrate everything hot about Brazil 2014 - and I'm not talking about the weather!

Oh no. I'm talking about those blokes in shorts that are actually worth sitting through 90 minutes of a sport quite a few of you might not be all that interested in. I myself am quite a big fan of The Beautiful Game, but for those of you who aren't, check out these nine (didn't have time to round it up to ten - I'm actually supposed to be editing...) examples of everything that is good about this World Cup. Yep. It's time to check out the international eye-candy...

David Villa - Spain

An absolute must on this list. Actually, if I'm being honest, most of the Spanish team could have been on this list, but I thought I'd better try and spread the love...

Gerard Pique - Spain

... but only after one more Spanish player has put in an appearance. But we don't stand a chance with this one, ladies. His other half's Shakira...

Yohan Cabaye - France

Not bad, even for an ex-Newcastle United player... Just don't let my Sunderland-supporting husband hear me saying that... ;-)

Roman Shirokav - Russia

Needs a little bit of three-day stubble and a few tattoos to be absolutely perfect, but I'm not complaining...

Orestis Kamezis -Greece

I've got Greek blood in me, so I had to have someone from my ancestral home in this list, didn't I?

Jack Wilshire - England

If I'm being honest, it was a bit of a struggle to come up with a really hot player from my home country. I mean, Wayne Rooney, God love him, he's never really been pin-up material, has he? And because of the average age of the England squad this time around, I'm old enough to be, for the majority of them, their mother! However, Jack Wilshire has tattoos, could probably grow a beard (I like beards) if he wanted to... he gets the vote.

Niko Kranjcar - Croatia

Cute. And cute with stubble is even better...

Mauricio Pinilla - Chile

Oh yes! Dark hair, stubble, and tattoos! Almost verging on perfect now...

Mats Hummels - Germany

Lovely eyes, nice dark, unruly hair... that'll pretty much do for me...

Anyway, there we have it. My little look around at what Brazil 2014 has to offer during this World Cup. And, believe me, there are quite a few more out there who - even if you have no interest in football - might just make it worth your while tuning in every now and again. I mean, come on. The scenery really isn't all that bad, is it? ;-)

And if you fancy meeting another hot footballer - but a purely fictional one this time - don't forget my sexy soccer romance Striker is out now! So, if you'd rather read about The Beautiful Game, and the kind of action you won't get to see on any of those pitches out in Brazil, then go download it HERE! It's really quite good...

Right. I'm off to make sure I've got my World Cup wall chart ready...

It's (re) Release Day for sexy soccer romance 'Striker'!

Yes, I know we've already been here before with this book, but it's different this time. This time Striker has been picked up by a publisher - the fabulous HarperImpulse - it's got a brand new cover, it's had a little re-edit, and now bad boy footballer Ryan Fisher is back out there, just in time for the World Cup!

But, if football really isn't your thing, then you might want to check out Striker and read your way through the world's biggest soccer tournament because I can guarantee one thing, the kind of action you'll find in Striker isn't anything you're going to see on the pitches over in Brazil. Oh no. We're talking a whole different kind of ball control... Yes, this summer, it's time to play dirty...

Amber Sullivan is an ambitious, beautiful and feisty Sports reporter for a local TV news programme. With an ex-professional soccer player for a father, she’s grown up in and around the world of premiership football, and boy does she know better than to get mixed up with the men who play the game. Meet my Main Character Blog Hop - Ryan Fisher (Striker)

I've been nominated by the lovely Wendy Lou Jones for this blog hop - and you can check out her post and find out more about the main character from her book 'By My Side' HERE.

I've also decided, like Wendy, to give my main character a voice of their own, and let them tell you more about themselves.

So, are you ready to meet bad boy footballer Ryan Fisher? Over to you, Ryan...

What is your name and are you real or fictitious?

My name's Ryan Fisher, and I'm a fictitious Premiership footballer.

When and where is your story set?

My story is set in the present day and takes place mainly in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the north east of England.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

What should we know about you?

Well, I’m a Geordie, born and bred in the north east of England, but I left the region when I was a teenager to follow my dream of becoming a top-flight footballer. And that’s exactly what I am! One of the best, I hasten to add. Some people would say I’m slightly cocky, maybe a little arrogant, but, hey, the women love me, I’m one hell of a footballer, so what can I do? I also have a bit of a past, but haven’t we all...?

What is the main conflict? What messes up your life?

Main conflict? Well, there's a bit of tension between me and my manager at Newcastle Red Star, the club I play for. To say what causes that tension would give too much away, but let's just say there are quite a few things we clash over.

What messes up my life? Well, where do I start? Drink, gambling, women... one woman in particular, actually. A very beautiful, very stubborn woman. Someone who isn’t like all the others – she doesn’t fall at my feet or need to flutter any false eyelashes to get my attention, and she really doesn't want to be a WAG! She's a challenge, and I don’t normally do challenges – I don’t need to. Whatever I want I usually get, until she came along…

What is your goal?

No pun intended there, I assume! My goal is to be happy. To get my head straight. To not mess up, again. To win this challenge I’ve suddenly been faced with…

What is the book title?

'Striker', and it’s book #1 in a trilogy. It's available to download right now through all online retailers! You can grab a copy from Amazon right HERE!

Thank you so much for tagging me, Wendy!

I'm now nominating another fellow HarperImpulse author Jill Knapp. Her book 'What Happens To Men When They Move To Manhattan?' is due to be released on July 24th, but is available to pre-order right now!

Over to you, Jill!

'Striker' is available to buy from all major online retailers - check out my HarperImpulse link to find out more!
